Watercolour Silhouette Portraits for Kids

This new piece is very close to my heart.

I'm always looking to produce creative artwork with my favourite mediums incorporating what I love most... so this time I'm painting and drawing 6 silhouette portraits of my daughter from different stages of her life: When she was born, at 6-months-old, on her first birthday, 18-months-old, 2 years-old and 2 1/2 years-old.

Watercolour Silhouette Portraits

For me, it's a keepsake that encapsulates different stages of a child's life, a very special and unique watercolour. Also, appealing, beautiful art with meaning and an affordable price tag is also something I value very much - as an artist, a mum and a woman who enjoys shopping too!

Almost 2 years ago I came up with this original portrait, one silhouette a month, featuring the first 12 months of being a mum. Here's a little bit of the story behind it.

Your baby’s first year is, inevitably, a year of discoveries, whether we are mums or dads for the first, second, third or 10th time! In fact, for me as a mum, the reality of being a parent is an experience that grows with our children and will follow us through life - a continuous learning path.

In the simplicity of shapes I can easily observe her growth and recognize the moments she started to seat, the 'tummy time' , wriggling on the floor like a worm and standing up on her own.

All these with simple lines together with colours inspired on the original photos. And the most fascinating thing is that each child will have their achievements at different times - and through these silhouette portraits, you can watch the progress in a simple square watercolor hanging in your wall!
